Celebrate heritage through every sip.
In simplicity
WE PRESERVE ANCIENT VALUES FOR THE WHOLE WORLD TO EXPERIENCE
At the heart of the Maria Faretra brand lies a harmonious fusion—a symphony of the youthful spirit of a modern brand blending with the treasured legacy of those who have spent their formative years among grape vines. This interplay of innovation and heritage, like the stirring melody of an age-old song revitalized by a fresh arrangement, gives birth to wines that are a testament to both the wisdom of the past and the vibrancy of the present. Our wines are the expression of a lifestyle, the desire to stand out in both image and taste. We work with dedication to make every detail a manifesto of excellence, signing everything with the creative signature of a female-led company.
GENERATIONS SHIFT, PASSION REMAINS
Our story began long ago, during our endless childhood days in the vineyard. It was a time of heart-filled memories, as we discovered the small wonders of wine amidst endless chatter about our native vines. Though the years have passed, those cherished memories still shape who we are—from the attentive tending of the vines, to the patient anticipation of maturation, to the joy and sweat of harvest. Though they return each year, these rituals never lose their thrill. Now, new generations take the lead, carrying on the same deep love for the land. Our wines are our way of sharing our heritage with the world. Each bottle is a love letter to the sweetest parts of life—beauty, pleasure, and being true to who we are. We seek elegance without excess, placing respect is at the heart of it all: respect for the people behind the wine, for the time-honored processes we employ, and for the environment which gives us everything. To ensure a bright future for generations yet to come, we commit to preserving biodiversity. This involves maintaining soil health through low-impact farming methods, handpicking grapes, and streamlining the entire production process in an eco-friendly way. These decisions not only protect nature but also enhance the authenticity of our wines and terroir.
AN ENCHANTING AND GENEROUS LAND
Our connection to this land runs deep—it's woven into the fabric of our culture. In the Capitanata of northern Puglia, we find the ideal backdrop for crafting exceptional wines and embracing life's pleasures. Civilizations throughout history have recognized this region's allure, from the Neolithic Age to the Middle Ages, Roman era, and beyond. Even Frederick II, who proudly dubbed himself "a man of Apulia," envisioned it as his kingdom's capital. Nestled within the extraordinary Capitana region, native grape varieties flourish in their natural habitat, providing a sanctuary for even the rarest and most endangered vines. This remarkable landscape allows these unique grapes to thrive and captivate, even in the face of extinction.
Orta Nova: Terroir of Excellence, Wines of Character
Just a short distance from our town of Orta Nova, lies the archaeological site of Herdonia: a city dating back to the Daunian period, intersected by the Via Minucia (later renamed Via Traiana) during Roman times and connected to the Via Appia, which is now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Orta Nova's landscape, adorned with olive groves and vineyards, possesses a captivating beauty that renders the outside world a distant memory. The area's microclimate and rolling terrain appear custom-made for viticulture, featuring efficient soil drainage, a Mediterranean climate of hot summers and mild winters, and vineyards situated between 195 and 820 feet (60 to 250 meters) above sea level. The predominantly clay-limestone soil is abundant with traces of marine rocks, naturally enriching it with high minerals content.
